Hydro Bills Harder for Families to Afford Due to Liberal Waste and Mismanagement

QUEEN’S PARK – Today during Question Period, Leader of the Official Opposition Patrick Brown continued to illustrate how Liberal mismanagement has resulted in life being more unaffordable in Ontario, this time highlighting Ontario’s skyrocketing energy prices.

“Across the province people are fed up with the cost of their hydro bills. This government will overcharge the equivalent of more than $450 every year for every person in Ontario. It’s reflected on each and every bill – that’s about $40 a month per person,” said Brown. “The government might trivialize the cost, but to an average family it could mean new shoes for their child at the start of the school year.”
In particular, Brown referenced how Liberal waste and mismanagement are the reason for Ontario’s energy prices being among the highest in North America: the $1.1-billion wasted on the gas plant scandal, the $2-billion squandered on smart meters, and the $9-billion the Liberals overspent on renewable energy contracts.
“Liberal waste and mismanagement is having real consequences for Ontario families and seniors. The consequences are seen every month on Ontario hydro bills,” added Brown.
“Why has the Liberal Government made it so much harder for Ontario families to pay their hydro bills?”
